After my circuitous path to becoming a director , I decided to enter another film competition. I produced/directed/wrote an educational DVD , and have produced/directed/written narrative theater, it was time to combine them into an entertainment DVD. But which film competition should I enter?
This is the big 48 hour film competition. I work well under pressure. And I wanted a film contest to enter. This one was perfectly timed for my participation, April 21. So I decided to enter.
My plan was to be a one man team. I have the technique and equipment to produce, write and direct my entry. And I could do some acting in front of a green screen. I could use puppets or animations for secondary characters. Edit them together, and bingo, that's my entry.
But then I realized my entry could be considerably more effective if I focused my efforts behind the camera, and got volunteer actors in front of it. (They shouldn't be that hard to find, actors would give anything to be in ANY project.)
So I'm preparing for the big weekend. Here's my plan.
I get a genre, line, character and prop. I write through the night, and storyboard/schedule shots. I figure I get a whole 10 hours for preproduction of a 5 min film.
This is when the bulk of filming will occur. Saturday starting at 7am. Saturday morning-afternoon, we shoot and edit. Daylight will be precious. So we get 1-2 hours per minute of film. It's doable.
At night we do additional dialogue recording (if needed). I edit a rough cut of the piece together.
Sunday I finish editing, score the music/sound effects, and burn the DVD. It won't be perfect, but it will be entertaining.
I may even get an hour or two of sleep that weekend.

I need actors who will be available all day Saturday, April 20. Email me who you are, what range of characters you like to play, and your headshot. (If you don't have a digitized headshot of yourself, no problem, I'll just see what you look like when we meet in person.)
There will be one or two group rehearsals before the big weekend, which will be scheduled around everybody's availability.
I'm hoping to hear from you!
