Victor's Bio

I am Victor, an MD/PhD student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Because I'm in year 7 of an (at least) 8 year program, and I'm probably not going to graduate until 2010.

I bought my own house. Because houses are expensive, I make do with cheap tranport. Right now, I've got 2 cars and 3 motorcycles, and only 1 of my 4 vehicles is working. (That's how I've learned about mechanical stuff.) The lab protocols come from my attempts to get a PhD in science (Neurophysiology of NMDA receptor knockout mice: mechanism of seizure genesis). I find my artistic side sometimes suffers, so I've been re-exploring my musical aspirations for creative exercise.

I've got 27 years experience under my belt (DOB 1978). Born in Columbus, OH, I moved around every 2-3 years for elementary school. I spent 4 years at Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL and finally undergrad and graduate school at UIUC. As a kid, I mostly stayed at home watching Transformers and GI Joe. As a teen, I explored lots of extracurricular activities (student publications, theatre, speech team, community service, music, etc). As a young adult, I spend most of my time doing the MD/PhD program and making music and art.

As a kid/teen I always thought I was going to be a general practice doctor. But I stumbled across the MD/PhD opportunity and seized it. I'm not really sure where I'm going right now. My current plan is to become a rich famous entertainer. With the millions I make as a rock star/actor/comic, I would establish some charities (to make the world a better place) and a research institute (to pursue my intellectual interests). Then, after solving world hunger and curing all known diseases, I would use my fame and popularity to become a political diplomat to establish world peace. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
